After this post, I am sure that you will agree with me that the ugly house is on its way to not being so ugly anymore.
Here is my warning label:
This post contains before photos of the nastiest bathroom in America. In one photo Taye is "ducking" so that Al can take a before photo. Do I allow my children to play on the floor of a disgusting house? No. It just appears that way. Yes. That is mold. The grout on the tile in the after photos looks darker in these photos than it actually is. We took showers this morning, so it is wet.
Here is what handy handsome husband did:
We tore this bathroom down to the exterior walls. We even had to replace the studs. The usual "things you don't see": New Wiring, New Plumbing (all the way to the street), Adding Central Heat and Air, as well as venting. It is very obvious that there WAS no ventilation to this bathroom. The mold should tip you off.
Al put on a haz-mat suit and gas mask, tore out all walls and ceilings and tore out the old shower and tub. He found the floor completely rotten and replaced all of the joists, and added a new sub-floor. He moved the plumbing to make way for a bigger shower and bathtub. He tiled the floors and shower with tumbled marble. He did not build a new shower pan/mud bed. Our house has an unfinished basement and he was worried about it cracking. He ordered the bed from here. I think it is the 5 foot. When he moved the plumbing he added the extra jets in the shower. Our amazing, super talented cabinet maker, Steven built the sink base, tub surround, and linen closet. The sink base is his own design. We tried several things, however, as you can see the space is narrow. This is what he came up with. Needless to say, I am VERY pleased with the results.
I think that is it. Except Al says to add, "Sorry for the cheesy music, of which I have no control."
