More House Info.

In case you were wondering, I am perfectly aware that my husband has gone and paid money for the ugliest house ever. Here is the story... When Al and I came back to home for his 10 year reunion, we were lovin' life in sunny Florida. Al often makes random statements about nothing, and at a reunion picnic at the park he made such a statement. We were admiring the homes of the historic district, here in town. Al made the comment that most of the homes were well loved and beautiful, "except that one." I looked up and saw this house right smack in the middle of the others. The roof was awful! The shingles were wrapped around the facia, soffit AND the gutters. (Sorry, I have no before pics of this) How they were attached, I will never know. Al then said, "If I ever move back home, I am going to buy that house and fix it." Keep in mind, at the time, the statement meant nothing more to me, than "If pigs could fly, then..." NEVER in my wildest dreams did I imagine owning that house. Fast foward to 2007-2008, we own the ugly home, and, Al is loving his project.

Here is a little vision for you...after demolition and framing, he is going to do a front elevation adjustment, to make the house's facade more appealing. Then, the fun part, modernizing the inside. I will post the progress as it happens, just know, that is what's next.

Historically speaking, this house is an important part of the city's history. It was built in 1937 by the first chancellor of the University and his wife, as their personal residence. Over the years the funds had been alotted to build the family a home on campus, however, he wanted to stay put in the historic district. The random right half of the house was a wrap around porch and carport, which was enclosed to accomodate him as he aged.
